Welcome to Jazz Notes, a website devoted to Jazz history as revealed through the jazz album cover. As a museum educator, I find the jazz album cover to be an interesting artifact for studying the history of jazz. Specifically, the jazz album features cover designs and photography, liner notes, and of course the music. The album cover artwork and photography often reveals a lot about the historical period in which the recording was created, the artist, the culture, and the content or theme of the album. The liner notes offer biography details about jazz artists, the notes on musical composition and information about the recording sessions and time period in general. And, of course, there is the music!


On this site, I will continue to provide updates to the Jazz Notes podcast, in which i focus on an artist and a specific album during each episode. I will also post news and blog topics.
